Please note: This production will be set in late 1970’s London against the punk sub-culture of the time. While the spirit of the original script will be honored, this will not be your typical Shakespearian production – Shakespeare newbies and enthusiasts both welcome.

The Bacchae

To be touched by the demigod Dionysus, god of wine and revelry, is to enter a world of spiritual, sensual madness and ecstasy. Rebuffed by his earthly family, the young Dionysus returns to his homeland to seek revenge. There, with his ecstatic followers, known as Bacchants, Dionysus extracts his revenge for his people’s failure to recognize his godhead. Adapted by director Ted Guhl, “Bacchae” will feature original music, sound, movement, costumes and setting in an attempt to create a ceremony of the profound and ecstatic. Note: not suitable for young children.
