Mad Hatter is Off to London

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter is off to London this fall. The actor playing the Mad Hatter, Alex Kirstukas, will be working toward his Master’s Degree studying Advanced Theatre Practice at London’s Royal School of Speech and Drama. This will not be Alex’s first experience studying in England. The Minnesota native was awarded a scholarship through the Yale School of Drama to study theatre in Britain after graduating from St. Olaf College with a major in music.

As a somewhat recent addition to life in Avon, Connecticut in the last few years, Alex has taken advantage of the many opportunities to participate in local area theater. He began his association with Hole in the Wall Theater as a cast member of Pirates of Penzance. He continued at HITW as the director of Travesties, which was seen earlier this season. He also was a member of the cast of our most recent production, Julius Caesar. Alex has been busy with other area theater groups, as well. He has been seen as Sweeney Todd in the Connecticut Theatre Company’s production of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He has lent his talents as a cast member in the Simsbury Light Opera’s The Sorcerer, and the Connecticut Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Iolanthe.

When not on stage, Alex works as a freelance literary translator of French into English. His most recently published book from Wesleyan University Press is a translation of Jules Verne’s Robur.

We all at Hole in the Wall Theater wish Alex nothing but the best in his future British endeavours!
