Mairin McKinlay returns to the stage in LINT! The Musical after an absence from theatre. In this production, she plays “Fab,” one of three Muses. “We are the ones who begrudgingly force (main character) Phoebe and her friends to keep the show going,” said Mairin. The characters of LINT themselves are stuck in a musical.

For Mairin, this role is a huge challenge. “I’ve never had to harmonize to this degree,” she said. “There are a lot of Doo Wop and Motown inspirations. It’s always fun to sing in that genre. The show doesn’t take itself very seriously.”

Immediately, Mairin bonded with her cast mates and production staff. “Whenever we are together, someone is always making a joke related to the show. Also, (Directors) James DeMarco and Stephanie Layne have been great in the notes they give and the environment they set. You feel free to joke around and get the work done.”

Mairin made her stage debut in the sixth grade as the Cowardly Lion in The Wiz. She was also active in her high school’s theatre program, doing every major production through her senior year. She studied Television Production at Drexel University. She is currently pursuing nursing.

Although she carries a full plate, she still has a lot of passion for production and acting. “I love to perform,” she said. “There is a great energy in singing in front of an audience.”

Come see Mairin and the rest of the cast in LINT! Performances run Fridays & Saturdays from January 22nd through February 13th at 8:00pm with one Sunday matinee on January 31st at 2:00pm. Tickets are $25.00 (General Admission) and $20.00 (students & seniors). They can be purchased at the door and online at www.hitw.org.
