May has Come to HITW!!!

Hello Hole in the Wall friends and family!

May has arrived and it is finally starting to feel a bit more like spring. While the weather has been dark and rainy as of late, we at HITW still light up the stage by doing what we do best! This month is no exception as we bring you a plethora of events for the good people of New Britain to enjoy.

First up, three words: OUR NEXT SHOW! Our next major production is an original from Scott Stephen Kegler, the genius mind behind our season opener, Final Arrangements. We bring you his comedy-drama, Champagne and Licorice. Directed by our very own Christina Giannelli, the show focuses on Silky, a young woman traveling to her family’s home on New Year’s Eve. A journey like this will result in family drama, big news, and a drunk clown who’s along for the ride. The curtain goes up on May 17th and runs for four (4) weekends with nine (9) shows. Fridays and Saturdays, the show starts at 8pm, with a Sunday matinee on May 26th at 2pm. Tickets are $20 ($15 for students and seniors) and are available online at our website, www.hitw.org. Don’t miss it!

With a new show comes new auditions. On Sunday, May 19th, and Monday, May 20th, we will be holding auditions for our next main stage production (and last of the season!), Virtual Devotion by Eric Coble. Directed by Luis Marrero, this show takes a look at the commercialization of religion involving a rag-tag group of people including: a lady who watches too much TV claiming to see a biblical figure in her pudding, a fire and brimstone televangelist who comes down with the same Mystery Plaque he preaches against, and Jesus Christ, himself, who must now traverse the current world working for burger places and pizza joints.

Auditions for Virtual Devotion will be held at 7:30pm on the aforementioned dates and will consist of readings from the script. Our casting call (with character list) is posted on our website. Be sure to list any theater experience (or bring a resume) when you sign up. Head shots are welcome, as are 1-2 minute comedic monologues, but neither are required to audition. Make sure you also have a reliable form of transportation and a list of any scheduling conflicts. ALL are welcome to try out!

For those who want in on our theater experiences right away, we have our next Open-Mic Night coming up on May 29th! Any talent you have, we want to see. Do a dance, play an instrument, make random objects fall out of a hat, we want to see what you can do. Sign-ups start at 7pm and the doors open at 7:30pm. It’s $5 dollars for everyone interested, whether you want to see or be part of the show. So, don’t be shy, step right up!

While the dreary weather can bring down the mood, we will be more than happy to brighten your night with a night of improv comedy we like to call The Hole Enchilada! On Saturday, May 11th at 8pm, we will gather a group of performers together just for the express purpose of making you laugh by making things up as they go along. Tickets are $10, so don’t miss a chance to laugh.

If you want to be part of our HITW family, simply stop on by to our next general meeting. Just walk through the doors and you are a voting member. And perfect timing, too, because our next meeting is our big Annual Meeting! Wednesday, May 8th is the day where we will be coming together to vote in new board members and start putting together our season for 2019-2020! So, if you see a show that might be good for our next season, come on by and vote!

Volunteers and donations are always welcome at HITW. Don’t be afraid to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and our main website to find out all you can about what’s coming up. You can donate through www.hitw.org (all donations are welcome), find out how you can volunteer for concessions during a show (where you can then see said show for FREE!), and find out about future auditions, work calls, meetings, etc.

With summer around the corner, we hope to have you join us in bringing art and entertainment to New Britain. Thank you!
