We have our third show of the 2023 season to announce and we want you to be a part of it. On Sunday, April 23,2023, at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., and call backs, Tuesday, April 25, 2023,at 7:00 p.m., HITW will be holding auditions for The Niceties by Eleanor Burgess. The show runs June 16, 2023-July 1, 2023, including a matinee on June 25, 2023.
Play summary:
The Niceties is a riveting two-person drama. At an elite East Coast university, Zoe, a black student, and Janine, her white professor, meet to discuss their differing views on Zoe’s paper about slavery’s effect on the American Revolution. This polite clash of ideas soon landslides into an explosive discussion of race, history, privilege, social justice, and power. They’re both liberal. They’re both women. They’re both brilliant. But very quickly, discussions of grammar and Google turn to race and reputation, and before they know it, they’re in dangerous territory neither of them had foreseen – and facing stunning implications that can’t be undone. It is a timely statement in today’s climate.
Directed by Laurie Maria Cabral and produced by John Bosco and Hilary Lang, auditions are open to all.

Zoe Reed-female, black, twenty to twenty-five. A college student
Auditions will be held on the dates listed above in person at Hole in the Wall Theater (116 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051) with potential call backs to be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2023. All potential cast members must:
- Have a working and reliable source of transportation.
- Attend at least one (1) general meeting at the theater (held on the second Wednesday of each month, unless previously changed).
- Attend at least one (1) build day or evening for the set.
- See a performance of Stranger Still.
- Attend strike for Stranger Still, Sunday, May 7, 2023.
- Attend strike for The Niceties, Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Resumes and headshots are welcome, but not necessarily required to gain a spot in the show. Applicants will be asked to list prior acting/performance experience on the application form. Monologues are also not required, but sides from the script will be provided. Show dates of The Niceties are Fridays and Saturdays from June 16, 2023-July 1, 2023, with one (1) Sunday matinee on June 25, 2023. There is a pickup rehearsal on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
